About
Black Warrior Review
Black Warrior Review (BWR) is a nonprofit literary publication produced by graduate students in the MFA Program in Creative Writing at the University of Alabama. Since its founding in 1974, BWR has been committed to publishing forward-thinking poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and visual art.
The magazine is known for showcasing marginalized and underrepresented voices, especially those of Black, queer, and experimental artists. Each issue challenges the boundaries of genre and form, and BWR actively supports writers through its annual contests, online features, and editorial mentorship.
