Founded in 1976 by visionary producer, playwright, and actress Jackie Taylor, the Black Ensemble Theater Company is a Chicago institution devoted to eradicating racism and celebrating Black culture through theater. Known nationally for its uplifting, music-driven productions, the company brings to life the stories of iconic African-American musicians, trailblazers, and changemakers.

Housed in a state-of-the-art theater in Uptown Chicago, Black Ensemble creates original musicals that highlight the cultural, social, and historical impact of Black artists. Their vibrant performances, immersive storytelling, and educational outreach initiatives make them one of the most influential Black-led theater companies in the country.
